The construction of warehouses is part of the “One District, One Warehouse” initiative under IPEP. This initiative is targeted at reducing post-harvest loses among small holder farmers across the country. The provision of storage will essentially ensure a continuous flow of agriculture produce, create opportunities along the agriculture value chain and also support the implementation of Government’s “Planting for Food and Jobs” initiative.
To this end, the Ministry is constructing fifty (50) 1,000 metric tonnes warehouses across the country. These warehouses will be prefabricated (superstructure mounted on concrete platforms), with ancillary facilities including offices and laboratories, resting rooms with attached sanitary facilities, chain-link fencing with gatehouse, and solar powered grain dryers amongst others. The Ministry is collaborating with the Ghana Buffer Stock Company, an agency under the Ministry of Food and Agriculture and the projects are expected to be completed by first quarter of 2020..
